My work as an undergraduate user experience designer!

CU Boulder UX

Buff Portal and CU Boulder UX Work

ROLE: Undergraduate User Experience Designer

TIMELINE: August 2024 - May 2026 (Graduation)

SKILLS: UX Design, Figma, UX Writing, Information Design, Digital Media Production, UX Research

In this role, I work with the UX/UI team to design deliverables in Figma with a strong focus on accessibility, ensuring proper color contrast, screen reader compatibility, and inclusive user experiences. I analyze user research and usability testing findings to generate innovative design solutions informed by student feedback. Additionally, I manage three biweekly design and UX tasks through Jira, maintaining a steady workflow of iteration, learning, and collaboration.

New campus Wi-fi change management work

SKILLS: Figma, UX Writing, Adobe Illustrator

Collaborated with CU Boulder’s Campus Buildings to enhance the student Wi-Fi onboarding experience ahead of a campuswide network transition. The project focused on designing a more intuitive login flow, creating clear and engaging communication materials, and supporting a soft launch in Winter 2025 to prepare students for a transition in January.

Ideated print posters, social media graphics, and QR-based CTAs to streamline setup instructions and direct users to support resources.

How might We… design a clear and engaging student experience that makes connecting to CU’s new Wi-Fi networks accessible and easy to complete?

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Students need a unified set of visual communication materials that make connecting to the new Wi-Fi networks fast, intuitive, and accessible across digital and physical touchpoints.

Design Work

CU Boulder Safe redesign

SKILLS: Figma, UX Writing, Adobe Illustrator

Collaborating with CU Boulder’s Campus Police, the UX team worked on redesigning CU Boulder Safe, a campus safety application for students, faculty, and staff. The app, originally developed by AppArmor, had usability issues that made it difficult for users to quickly access key safety features. My work focused on synthesizing usability test data to improve the interface design and iconography to make safety functions immediately recognizable and intuitive, while maintaining the app’s academic branding and reassuring tone.

How Might We… design an interface that allows CU Boulder students, faculty, and staff to quickly identify and access the safety functions they need without hesitation while maintaining AppArmor’s original UX architecture?

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Users of CU Boulder Safe need a clear and intuitive interface because the existing app’s icons and layouts make it difficult to quickly understand and use safety features in time sensitive situations.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Ideated on color design to highlight the most important features of the application within tight design constraints.

  • Acquired branding-acceptable icons from Font Awesome for each of the application’s main functions and solicited/synthesized feedback on the effectiveness of each.

  • Ran accessibility audits of each color palette to determine the equity of each design approach.

I supported the redesign of CU Boulder’s online name change process, focusing on improving clarity, accessibility, and ease of use for students, faculty, and staff. Using Figma, I helped rebuild existing web pages and designed a streamlined form request flow that simplified how users submit and track name change requests. My work centered on creating a more intuitive experience that reduced confusion and aligned with the university’s digital design standards.
